Under-chin fullness may be submental fat, loose skin, platysmal muscle or deeper neck anatomy, chin and jaw structure, or a combination. A photo cannot establish the cause. Your provider examines the area and history before recommending an injectable or another approach.
How KYBELLA Works
Its active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, is cytolytic: when administered according to the label into appropriate submental fat, it disrupts cell membranes and destroys treated fat cells. Treatment is not an instant jawline change; swelling occurs and visible change is gradual.
Candidate assessment
Who May Be a Candidate?
Adults with moderate-to-severe submental fullness caused by suitable fat may be candidates after an in-person evaluation. Your provider also considers skin elasticity, neck anatomy, prior procedures, medication and health history, and whether the likely change aligns with your goals. KYBELLA is not a weight-loss treatment or a solution for loose skin.

If appropriate, KYBELLA is administered by injection into the submental fat according to its prescribing information. The provider determines the individual plan.
After
Swelling and tenderness are common; bruising, numbness, redness and firmness can occur. Change develops over time and any further visit is based on reassessment.

Know the Risks Before Treatment
KYBELLA is FDA-approved to improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe fullness associated with submental fat in adults. Its updated 2026 labeling states that it is not approved for subcutaneous fat outside the submental region and that such use is not recommended. FDA’s September 15, 2026 communication explains that the warning followed its review of serious adverse events reported with use outside this area. At Grace, KYBELLA is considered for under-chin fat only. It must not be injected into or near an active infection at the treatment site.
Swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and firmness or induration are common. Less common but important risks include injury to the nerve along the jaw (which can cause an uneven smile or facial weakness), difficulty swallowing, injury to tissue or blood vessels, and persistent nodules or masses. Ulceration, tissue death (necrosis) and infection can occur and require medical attention.
Tell your provider about prior facial or neck procedures, swallowing difficulties and all health conditions. Report an uneven smile, trouble swallowing, an open wound or persistent lump promptly. This summary does not replace the complete prescribing information.

KYBELLA vs LipoDissolve / PCDC
KYBELLA is a branded FDA-approved deoxycholic acid drug for adult submental fullness. Grace’s LipoDissolve is individually prescribed compounded PCDC (phosphatidylcholine plus sodium deoxycholate), which is not FDA-approved. Approval of one does not apply to the other.

What Can I Expect?
Changes develop gradually, and swelling can temporarily affect how the area looks between visits. Results depend on your anatomy, skin quality and individual treatment plan. During your consultation, your provider can explain realistic expectations and how progress would be assessed. Individual results vary.
