Why Grace uses two Candela lasers
GentleLase — 755 nm Alexandrite
Often used for many lighter skin tones, where there is strong contrast between the skin and dark hair.
GentleYAG — 1064 nm Nd:YAG
Generally used for deeper skin tones, because it interacts less with pigment at the skin surface.
Fitzpatrick IV can go either way
Overlap is normal. Current skin tone, recent tanning, hair characteristics and the treatment area decide the choice.

The laser targets pigment inside the hair. That makes hair colour the first question — and it is a separate question from your skin tone.

Before and after your appointment
Preparing for your appointment
Come with the area clean, free of lotion, deodorant or makeup, and let us know about any new medication, recent sun exposure or self-tanner.
Shaving
Shaving is expected before treatment and is fine between appointments — it does not interfere with the series.
Waxing, plucking and threading
These remove the hair from the follicle, which is the target. Avoid them during the series.
Sun exposure and tanning
Recent tanning or a sunburn can change what is safe to treat. Protect the area and tell us if your skin tone has changed.
Immediately after treatment
Mild redness or a warm, prickly feeling around the follicles is common. Keep the area cool, clean and protected from the sun.
Exercise and heat
Plan to ease back into heavy sweating, hot tubs and saunas rather than going straight from treatment into them.
Self-tanner
Self-tanner changes the pigment the laser sees, so it needs to be fully off the treatment area before your appointment.
